Thanks for VFW, Buddy Poppy support

Dear Editor,

First we would like to thank The Selma Times-Journal for the excellent article that appeared Friday, Nov.9. You brought out some great points about the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Buddy Poppy. You shared this information with the community and you helped to make our Buddy Poppy drive a success. The Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ladies Auxiliary were stationed all around the city of Selma giving out Buddy Poppies and taking donations.

We had the help of the Jr. ROTC cadets from Southside High School and Selma High School. We had a total of 35 Cadets along with Sgt. Medina from Southside High and Captain Davis from Selma High; without their sincere help, we would have been hard pressed to obtain our goal.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank them and the businesses that allowed us to stand at their locations and distribute our Buddy Poppy: Winn Dixie, Highland Ave.; Tractor Supply; Winn Dixie, Dallas Ave.; Selma Flea Market; Dollar General, Highland Ave.; The Antique Tractor Show; Orrville; Dollar General, Dallas Ave.; CVS Pharmacy; Raceway, Highland Ave.; Marvin’s Inc.; Selma Curb Market; Craig Credit Union.

We are so proud of the people of Dallas County and the surrounding counties. They showed overwhelming support for Veterans. We raised more than $2,500 with our Buddy Poppy Drive. Thank you so much to the community for opening up your hearts and wallets to help the Veterans of this great nation.

From the members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3016, and the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars we thank you Selma and the surrounding area.

“Remember, freedom is not free, so next time you meet a veteran, thank them for their service.”
