For his role in the Saints’ 35-16 win at Sumter Central last Friday, Selma running back Adam Bruno is the male athlete of the week.

Bruno, a junior, rushed for 72 yards on 13 carries, had one reception for 58 yards, and scored two touchdowns in Selma’s road win against region foe Sumter Central.

Leroy Miles, head football coach of Selma High School, said Bruno has been a key player for the Saints all year, as he’s worked hard to come back from knee surgery.

“He had a very big impact. Adam’s been an impact player all year,” Miles said. “He runs the ball very, very hard. He’s emerged to be one of the top backs on our team. He’s a hard worker, he’s coming off knee surgery. And he’s just done a tremendous job for the team this year.”

Miles said one of Bruno’s greatest attributes is that he’s a good student on and off the field.

“He’s very coachable and a student of the game. He’s a good student in the classroom, also,” Miles said. “He’s a very hard worker in the weight room and he’s worked real hard all season. He’s just been a very positive guy all the time.”
