Selma’s Ward 4 will be on wheels Thursday as the ward’s quarterly meeting will take to a mini-bus to discuss the issues and have important questions answered.

Two meetings will be held, one at noon and the other at 6 p.m. Topics to be discussed include new ward boundaries, public safety, code enforcement, community development, public works and general services.

Selma Ward 4 council member Angela Benjamin said she hopes that by having a “rolling ward meeting,” citizens can receive better answers to their questions and clearly see the new ward boundaries, which were drawn in a recent redistricting project.

“One of the reasons that we’re having a rolling ward meeting is because the boundaries of every ward have been redrawn,” Benjamin said. “A lot of citizens have questions about which ward they’re in, they want to know if they’re inside the ward or in another ward.”

Citizens will board the bus for the noon meeting at the Selma Mall parking lot in the area near Hardee’s, and there will be three major stops.

An officer with the Selma Police Department will ride along to answer questions Benjamin said, along with a representative from public works, community development and code enforcement.

Because many residents don’t get off work till 5 p.m., Benjamin said there will be a second meeting, which will meet in the Cedar Park Elementary School parking lot at 6 p.m.

“We’re not just rolling through the new boundaries,” Benjamin said. “We’re also going to be talking about the issues.”

Most of Ward 4’s issues involve code enforcement, public works and public safety, Benjamin said, and she encourages citizens to attend the “rolling” meeting because “this is where all the ground business is done.”

“I encourage citizens in any ward, not just mine, to make sure you attend your ward meeting because you get your questions answered,” Benjamin said. “You get to talk about the issues, you get to talk about ideas, you get to join committees and different things like that.”
