Selma Police report three key arrests

The Selma Police Department announced Tuesday the recent arrests of three highly sought after suspects.

Their charges varied from attempted murder to possession of marijuana, but their arrests were made in areas ranging from downtown Selma to Toledo, Ohio.

Tuesday, officials with the department arrested Edward K. Morton in connection with an Aug. 4 shooting on Marie Foster Street, where a victim was left with multiple gunshot wounds and fighting for his life at a local hospital.

According to a department release, officers responded to the Aug. 4 shooting shortly after 8 p.m. in the 1200 block of Marie Foster. There they found the victim had already been transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center with a reported seven gunshots.

During the investigation, Morton was identified as the suspect and was arrested Tuesday on Broad Street near L.L. Anderson. He has been charged with attempted murder and attempted first degree robbery and placed in the Dallas County Jail under $400,000 bond.

Another Aug. 4 shooting reportedly involved two suspect shooting into a Medical Center Parkway apartment building.

Shortly before 10 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Medical Center Parkway. After talking with the victim and witnesses, police identified Marquel D. Streeter as a suspect.

In Tuesday’s release, the department said the investigation also showed Streeter was brought to the scene by Vonchelle D. Allison. She also reportedly drove Streeter away from the scene following the shooting.

Allison was taken into custody on Aug. 8 and charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, two counts of reckless endangerment and criminal mischief. She was charged and placed in the Dallas County Jail under $34,000 in bonds.

As for Streeter, he was taken into custody in Toledo, Ohio Tuesday on outstanding warrants from the city of Selma. He is being held until detectives can transport him back.

Streeter will be charged upon his return, including a fugitive from justice charge.

In the third case, narcotic detectives were working a drug detail Saturday evening when they encountered Roosevelt Homes in the area of Minter Avenue and Lawrence Street.

While being interviewed, police reported Holmes fled the area. As he ran he allegedly threw several small bags of marijuana to the ground.

When he was finally apprehended, police found Holmes in possession of 26 small individual bags of marijuana. He has since been charged with first degree possession of marijuana with a $30,000 bond.
