Velma Cobb Overstreet

Velma Cobb Overstreet died on July 19, 2012, at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Clinton Overstreet, her parents, William Tommy Cobb, Velma Roebuck Grey, three brothers, W. Loyd Cobb, William A. Cobb, Jimmy R. Grey, two sisters, Luvenia Harris and Sylvia Hermes, and her great-grandfather, Benjamine Barns, Jr., who fought in the Civil War.

She is survived by her two children, Linda Carol Overstreet Cleveland (Bill) of Fairhope, AL, Ramona Sue Overstreet Pearson of Selma, AL, three grandchildren, Jared Ryan Cleveland (Kelli) of Troy, AL, Mandy Cleveland Burns (Wren) of Fairhope, AL, Devin Keith Pearson of Selma, AL, four great-grandchildren, Cleveland Wren Burns, Thomas Henry Burns, Jackson Delaney Cleveland and Cole Kervin Cleveland, one sister, Sarah Thibodeaux (Weston) of Rayne, LA, one brother Jesse H. Grey and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Overstreet was a longtime resident of Flatwood, AL, in Wilcox County, where she was a member of Catherine Presbyterian Church and an active member of the Women of the Church. After moving to Selma, she became a member of the Faith Class at Elkdale Baptist Church. She loved the Lord Jesus Christ, her family and her friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 23, 2012, at New Live Oak Cemetery with the Reverend Al Finch officiating. The family will receive friends at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. immediately before the service.

Pallbearers will be William H. Cleveland, Jared Ryan Cleveland, Christopher Wren Burns, Kenneth Cobb, Ralph E. Jordan and Kent Harris. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Donald Clyde Overstreet, Dr. Boyd Bailey, James W. Cobb, Donald Earl Davis, Ted Davis and Winfred Brown.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Presbyterian Children’s Home.
