As the Selma Parks and Recreation Department Dixie Majors boys baseball season came to a close on Thursday, the players will now turn their eyes to all-star play.

The Selma 15-16-17-year old Dixie Pre-Majors and the 17-18-19-year old Dixie Majors all-stars will play in the District Four Tournament at Bloch Park on July 6-7.

Elton Reece, director of the Selma Parks and Recreation Department, said coaches and opponents for the Dixie Pre-Majors team are already in place.

“You’ve got the Dixie Pre-Majors, which will be coached by coach Johnny Raybon. They will be playing in the district tournament here July 6 and 7,” Reece said. “They will be playing a two-out-of-three tournament with Butler, Alabama to see who goes to the state tournament in Ozark on July 12.”

The Dixie Majors all-stars will also play in the tournament, but for practice, as they’ve already qualified for the state tournament to be held in Selma on July 12-17 by virtue of hosting.

“Since we’re hosting the tournament, our Dixie Majors, which is our 17-18-19-year-old team, they’re in it automatically,” Reece said, “but we’re playing Tuscaloosa just to play for practice because Tuscaloosa will be coming to the state tournament also.”

The Pre-Majors will start off the district tournament on July 6 at 5:30 p.m. at Bloch Park, while the Dixie Majors will play at 8 p.m. On July 7, the Pre-Majors will play at 10 a.m., and the Dixie Majors will play at 12:30 p.m.

As for Selma’s other all-star teams, the 9-10-year-old boys baseball all-stars are playing in their district tournament in Monroeville to see who advances to the state tournament in Auburn on July 12, while the 15-and-under Dixie Girls Softball all-stars are playing a double-elimination tournament in Thomasville on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
