Amanda Kelly Hobbs Jones

Amanda Kelly Hobbs Jones of Selma, Alabama was born on May 20, 1923 in Potter Station, Alabama to the late Lucy C. Kelly and Frank Kelly. She was the eldest of nine children. She departed this life on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Nolan Hospital in Montgomery, AL.

She received her Bachelors degree in Education from Alabama State University and later completed graduate studies at Livingston University (now The University of West Alabama). She taught in the Dallas County School System for 32 years.

Survivors include her two sons Nolan Hobbs (Brenda) of Stone Mountain, GA, Willie Hobbs (Elois) of Selma, AL and two daughters Frances Hobbs Coles of Selma, AL, and Janice Towns of Selma, AL; four stepchildren, Beatrice Gail, Ira Robinson and Fredrick Jones of Potter Station, AL, Gladys Waters of Detroit, Michigan; ten grandchildren, C’Kiimba Hobbs (Angela) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Hasan Hobbs (Ayanna) of Stone Mountain, GA, Aisha Nichols (Shawn) of Atlanta, GA, Togo Uganda Coles of Milwaukee, WI, Stephanie Coles of Selma, AL, Matese Towns of Tuscaloosa, AL, and John Towns of Montgomery, AL; six siblings, Mary Sewell of Montgomery, AL, James Kelly, Jeremiah Kelly (Jeraldine) and Frank Kelly, Jr. of Newark, New Jersey, Annie Louise Cunningham of Selma, AL, and Violet Kennon of Virginia; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends, and a dedicated Caregiver, Oille Williams.

Amanda Jones funeral will be held at the New Shiloh Baptist Church, Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Dan Moore, officiating.
