Even though it rained cats and dogs on Sunday, June 10 the Selma Art Guild’s annual Juried Art Show plans to still be a cat on a hot tin roof by hosting a Rain Check.
The event carried on as planned through the rain that Saturday, but the organizers of the event felt that art lovers and spectators should get another chance to see the show because the rain may have kept them away on Sunday. Guild Treasurer Cam Guarino volunteered at the reception and said they had a wonderful selection of art.
“We had artists from different places, all around central Alabama from Selma, Montgomery, Prattville and even artists from Florida,” Guarino said. “There were entries from 30 artists and they had some really wonderful artwork in the show.”
Juried Art Show rain check will be on Sunday, June 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Gallery on 508 Selma Avenue.
“We want people to come to the rain check so they can see the show before it comes down,” Guarino said. “The show hangs through the end of June but a lot of people missed it because the weather was so bad and there might have been several other events that same day.”
Guarino thinks that all who have not yet seen the show should come out to the rain check, as well as see the show during normal hours, every Friday and Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. until the end of the month.
“I would encourage people to come because it’s a very diverse show there is a big range of styles and mediums and techniques — so there is really something for everybody,” Guarino said.
The rain check show will be free of cost to those who attend and refreshments will be served. The show boasts art from different categories such as transparent, opaque, photography, 3-D, works on paper and mixed media. Most of the works are available for purchase.
