VALLEY GRANDE —The Valley Grande City Council met Monday to discuss the ongoing sewer project at Overlook Hills community.
The council approved a construction contract with Dominion Construction Inc. as recommended by engineer Ray Hogg who has helped with the project so far. Mayor Tom Lee said Dominion Construction Inc. had the lowest bid for the sewer system at $204,879.
“When you look at the low bid, you make sure [the company] knows what they are doing …[Dominion Construction Inc.] is a reputable company and Ray is familiar with them and I think we are in good shape,” Lee said.
The city of Valley Grande has had the sewer system in its possession since February. The funding for the system comes from grants both received and applied for. The city applied for a $111,000 grant from Delta Regional Authority in order to put $30,000 worth of fencing around the lagoon near the sewer system as well as some aeration equipment.
The city has also created an income budget for the sewer system.
“We projected a $25,000 annually, which is roughly 100 customers at $25 a month,” Lee said. “To date we have actually collected for March, April and May and collected $6,800. That’s like a quarter, so four times that puts us exactly on schedule for that type of money coming in.”
He also said the city has budgeted for minor maintenance problems and repairs for this “Cadillac” of a facility.
“Everything has happened so smoothly; almost just as we projected it,” Lee said.
