Council takes time to honor athletic ambassadors

Over the past few weeks, the chamber at the Selma City Council meetings have been a little busier than normal and it has nothing to do with the ongoing debate surrounding the council’s redistricting efforts.

Instead, the council chamber has been packed with local athletes coming before the council to be honored for their achievements and their championships.

It was just a few weeks ago the women’s basketball team from Concordia stood before the council to be recognized by the members and Selma Mayor George Evans.

And this past Tuesday three teams were in attendance, as the Morgan Academy Lady Senator track team and both the boy’s and girl’s track programs at Ellwood Christian Academy were honored for their state championship and division titles.

We applaud the mayor and council for taking time to honor these young men and women.

They have proven to be true ambassadors for the city of Selma while at the same time being vicious competitors.
