A recent trip to Montgomery produced a number of accolades for the students at Karate World.

Located in the Selma Mall, Karate World took its students to the Grand Nationals Tournament in Montgomery on March 10 and captured first and second place honors.

“We had some of those kids from our intermediate class participate in the national tournament and they came in second and first place in form and free-sparring competition,” said Lee Green, master and chief instructor at Karate World.

Green said he’s proud of the accomplishments of his students, and the martial arts program is not all about fighting as some might think.

“With the Taekwondo program, we’re teaching discipline, courtesy, integrity, perseverance and self-control,” Green said. “But our focus with the Little Dragon program is self-confidence.”

Green said that Karate World has introduced the Little Dragon program to help teach younger children and offer them another potential activity in their free time.

“The little kids, ages 3 and 4 year olds, those are our Little Dragon program,” Green said. “We hope that many more of the public will get in on that and try to give the little kids something to do during the summer.”
