Regional tourneys get going

As the sub-regional playoffs have come to an end and more teams were sent home for the spring, five teams from Dallas County advanced and will now hit the road for Regional Basketball Tournaments.

The Regional Basketball Tournaments begin Feb. 21 and will see five local teams head to Montgomery and Mobile for do-or-die playoff games.

The Selma Saints boys (19-11) and the Selma Lady Saints (25-3, ranked No. 9 in Class 5A) both head to Mobile for the Class 5A South Regional Basketball Tournament played at the University of South Alabama’s Mitchell Center.

The Lady Saints will take on the No. 1 ranked team in Class 5A, Faith Academy (30-0), Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. at the Mitchell Center.

The Selma boys will play the Faith Academy boys (ranked No. 8 in Class 5A) Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 4:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Center.

The Dallas County High School Hornets boy’s team (24-4, ranked No. 7 in Class 4A) heads to Montgomery for the Class 4A Central Regional Tournament at Alabama State University’s Acadome.

The Hornets will play Sumter Central Thursday, Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m.

The Keith Lady Bears (21-5) also head to the Montgomery and the Acadome for the Class 1A Central Regional Tournament.

The Lady Bears will play Holy Spirit (ranked No. 2 in class 1A) Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. in the Acadeome.

The Southside Lady Panthers (17-8) are also heading to Montgomery and the Acadome for the Class 4A Central Regional Tournament.

The Lady Panthers will square off with Sumter Central Thursday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. in the Acadome.

Wins in the first round of the regional tournament will send teams to the second round to be played at the same site two days later.
