Saturday night, people in the city of Selma will have yet another chance to come together for a fun event.

Several local churches and their youths are teaming up to host a free City-Wide Block Party Saturday, Feb. 18 at Lions Fair Park from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for children ages kindergarten to fifth grade, with registration starting at 1:45 p.m.

There are a number of motivating factors for young people. There will be face painting, games, food, drinks and crafts among other things.

The party is a collaborative effort between Church Street United Methodist Church and others, including Elkdale Baptist Church, First Presbyterian, First Baptist, Crosspoint Christian Church, Praise Park Ministries of The Nazarene in Valley Grande, Cathedral of Christ The King and Orrville Baptist Church.

It’s encouraging to see so many people working together to provide a fun event for young people and put the Lion’s Park to use.

Piece by piece the city of Selma is adding more things to keep young people occupied when they are not in school.

The block party will prove to be another great event.

All of the pieces are in place. The churches have joined forces and produced an organized effort. Hopefully, parents will take advantage of all their hard work and participate.

All it takes is a little interest to get the ball rolling on more fun events like the block party.

It takes a lot of hard work and planning for these churches to put together an event this large. The block party is a labor of love by people who want our youth to get to know each other and have fun. Let’s make sure their efforts are rewarded.
