Selma missed on its next possession and was forced to foul Mickle, who made both free throws to put the game out of reach at 45-39 with 0:15 left.

Saints’ head coach Woodie Jackson said his team got outplayed on some key possessions.

“We just got outhustled on some possessions,” Jackson said. “We played okay in spots, but we didn’t attack the basket like we should have on that press (defense). We didn’t get to the loose balls like we should have.”

Mickle led the Lions with 15 points, while Snow had 12 points.

Rogers led the Saints with 11 points, while Tavarius Murry had 9 points for Selma. The Lions will host the Class 2A Area 5 tournament at Central with their first game being against Highland Home at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Saints now turn their attention to the Class 5A Area 5 tournament starting on Friday when they’ll travel to Wilcox-Central High School in Camden to play Demopolis at 6 p.m.

Jackson said his team knows what it has to improve on going into the all-important tournament.

“We’ll just come back tomorrow and work,” Jackson said. “We know what we did wrong, it’s just a matter of correcting errors, and most of them were on, what you call, hustle plays.”
