Paris and Italy are the places synonymous with high-end fashion and couture, but on this Friday, Selma will be a fashion pioneer in its own right.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., come out to the Selma Art Guild’s Friday Night Art Walk for “Would You Wear This? Shabby Chic Wearable Art for Green People,” and browse clothing creations made from newspapers, garbage bags and paint swatches.

Guild president Sally Jordan said the event is “unconventional.”

“This is a tongue and cheek type (event), just to show the art guild is not just pictures of flowers, but we can do some creative thinking,” Jordan said.

“This is wearable art that is out-of-the-box, not just painting on clothing but clothing made of unconventional items.”

Jordan said she’s excited about Friday’s event, which is free and open to the public.

“Gery Anderson has made a tie out of the funny Sunday papers and I’ve made a dress out of paint chip sample strips — I’m going to wear it Friday,” Jordan chuckled. “I would expect to see some garbage bags used; there will be hats and vests, dresses and ties and maybe some shoes.”
