Solutions needed for early college

To say the Selma Early College Program gives our students an advantage when they head to institutions of higher education would be an understatement.
The information that is presented through the program almost puts them a step ahead of the game upon high school graduation.
Now, because of funding cuts, the Selma City School Board and Wallace Community College face some tough choices and tough circumstances regarding the program.
There is no doubt both parties understand the importance of the Early College program and both parties have no intention of letting this program go without a fight.
Already, meetings have been scheduled to see what can be done to overcome funding cuts and what the Selma school system can do to pay what is asked.
Hopefully, the efforts of both parties will bring forth a winning plan.
The students who participate in the program, and those who hope to participate in the future, deserve everyone’s best effort to keep the Early College program alive and well.
The program is just another example of things that need to be done to give our students an opportunity to overachieve in the classroom.
The education we can offer is a key component to the future success of our city.
Let’s hope both parties are able to come up with a solution to keep the pipeline open.
