A local restaurant is bringing the love associated with family to the food and environment that it provides. With the motto of ‘Where we cook from the heart’, Strong’s Sandwich Shop looks to provide an environment where families from all around can come to enjoy some good food and a friendly environment.

“We hope to provide more of a family-oriented environment where people can just come together, sit down, eat, get along and enjoy good food,” said Bridget Tyus, one of the restaurant’s co-owners. “We just have a family-oriented style. We serve soul food and we’re famous for our fish sandwiches and salads.”

Strong’s was founded in 1975 in East Selma by Tyus’ father Roosevelt Strong after he and his wife moved to Selma from Washington-Alexandria, Va.

Strong’s recently made the move from Division Street to its current location on Washington Street.

Strong’s Sandwich Shop is a family-owned business with members of the family, including Tyus and her brothers and sisters, working in the restaurant as cooks, servers and cashiers.

Tyus said Strong’s has numerous dishes that costumers can choose from every day and customers can dine in or place orders for pickup.

“It’s always been about soul food, fish, salads,” Tyus said. “We have the hot bar every day. We have our plate that consists of a meat, two sides and a beverage.”

Strong’s is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Strong’s is closed on Sundays.
