A Selma man remains hospitalized with a gunshot wound after stepping in the middle of an argument between his mother and stepfather.
According to Lt. Michael Harris, with the Selma Police Department, said 83-year-old Buddy Olds shot his stepson in the abdomen, sending the unidentified victim to the hospital and himself to the Dallas County Jail.
“This was a domestic dispute where it appears the son was simply trying to protect his mother,” Harris said. The department’s policy is not to release the names of victims.
The shooting happened on the 1500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Street at about 4 a.m.
Harris said when officers arrived, they found the suspect, Olds, still at the scene and took him in to custody.
“The victim was struck in the stomach, so we do consider it a life-threatening injury,” Harris said, adding the weapon reportedly used was a handgun.
Olds is still in custody in the Dallas County Jail, while the victim remains hospitalized. His condition was not made available.
Olds bond was set at $15,000.
