The city of Selma’s government and departments will open the doors to the public during its second open house event Friday.

For the second year, Executive Assistant B.J. Smothers said the city will open its doors to the public to offer a glimpse of daily operations.

“It’s a way to spread holiday cheer and welcome the public to come in and visit any department, that includes city hall, the police department, any of the fire houses, the cemetery department, recreation department and public works department. They can just stop in all day long and we will have refreshments for them.”

During the first open house, Smothers said several people dropped by throughout the day. Others, who came to city hall to conduct business, also participated in tours.

“We had people spread out during the day dropping in, and some were coming in to do business and we were able to show them around,” she said. “

“We have some things for them to snack on and they can talk to us and celebrate the holidays.”

The open house event will coincide with Selma City Hall’s operating hours, which run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Smothers said members of the community are welcome, and encouraged to drop by.
