The next time one particular Selma resident visits the Selma-Dallas County Public Library, he might want to spend a little more time in the legal section.

Monday, Selma Police arrested 21-year-old Kendall Thomas, charging him with harassing communication and making terrorist threats, a felony.

“The suspect contacted another individual — the victim in this case — by telephone on Sunday, Dec. 11 seeking money,” Selma Chief of Police William Riley said Thursday. “After the victim refused the money, the suspect became enraged.”

Riley said Thomas then reportedly threatened the victim and then threatened to go to the library and “kill everyone there.”

Police were contacted by the victim — and officials with the library — about the threat, who then sought out and found Thomas. He was taken into custody Monday, charged and placed in the Dallas County Jail under a $60,000 bond.

Riley said his department has worked closely with library director Becky Nichols in this case and will continue to do so.

Riley did add there was no indication that Thomas made steps to act on his threat to library officials and library patrons.
