Thanks to those who give their time

It’s never the ones we hear from the most we forget to thank. It’s never the ones we see all the time we forget to thank. It’s never the ones we read about everyday we forget to thank.

Instead, it is the ones we do not hear about, read about or see who far too often go about their work, their mission and rarely hear a ‘thank you.’

This morning, you will see cashiers at grocery stores, ensuring you are able to pick up that one more gallon of milk or stick of butter.

Today you will see police officers and deputies patrolling neighborhoods and country roads, providing the security we all crave.

You will see Selma firefighters manning their stations, ready to respond when called.

Although you may not see them, those who staff the county’s 911 Center will be on the other end of the phone to provide a calming voice in chaos.

It is these residents — our neighbors — and many others, who give of their time to be there to help when called upon. Yes, it is their job, but for them, in many cases it is also a calling.

Today we offer our thanks, to those who work in public safety, public service, customer service and any other profession called to work today.
