Selma City and Dallas County schools have already closed for Thanksgiving break this week and will reopen Monday.

Officials favor the break as a time to reconnect with families.

Selma City Ward 8 councilman Corey Bowie said the time is especially important for students.

“It’s very important to visit their parents because believe it or not, parents are the backbone to their child’s continued education,” Bowie said. “It also gives them personal time to get away from academics and have a chance to engage in a social life.”

Concordia College-Selma will be closed both Thursday and Friday and classes will resume Monday. The school will hold registration for the spring semester Thursday, Nov. 24 through Monday, Nov. 28.
