Poppy sales can make a difference

Dear editor,

It is that time of year again. We will be celebrating Veterans Day on Nov.11, and it is time for our annual Buddy Poppy drive. The Veterans of Foreign Wars, members of its Ladies Auxiliary to Post 3016 of Selma the Jr. ROTC of Southside High School and the ROTC from Selma High School will be gathered at locations all around Selma on Saturday, Nov.12 with Buddy Poppies taking donations.

The money gathered for these Poppies will be put to good use. It goes into our relief fund, and this fund is used to help disabled veterans, widows, dependents and their families.

The Dallas County community really came through for us last year, as we raised about $1,150 for this program.

We are truly grateful for the community support. We ask again that they reach into their pockets and find it in their hearts to help out with our Buddy Poppy Drive.

We will be located at several locations in Selma on Saturday, Nov. 12 including:

• Walmart

• Raceway

• Winn Dixie on Highland Avenue

• Winn Dixie on West Dallas Avenue

• Selma Curb Market

• June Bugs on Highland Avenue

Again we would like to say thank you to the people of Selma and Dallas and the surrounding counties that make our Buddy Poppy drive a success.
