Following last Friday’s dominating 45-18 win at Prattville Christian Academy, the Morgan Academy Senators football team is looking to keep moving towards its goal of returning to the playoffs.
The Senators (1-1, 1-1) are at home Friday night where they’ll face the Macon-East Montgomery Academy Knights (1-1, 1-1) at 7 p.m.
Morgan Academy head football coach Brian King said his team is looking to continue the momentum gained from last week’s big win.
“It was a huge turnaround for us and it definitely boosted our momentum going into another huge game,” King said. “The win last week definitely boosted our confidence, especially when we realized how hard we have to work to have success like that.”
King said his team has had a hard week of practice preparing for a Knights team that’s coming off a 34-28 win over Pike Liberal Arts School. King said the Knights are a very good at moving the football.
“Macon-East is a really good football team, especially offensively,” King said. “They’re a very high-paced offense. They run a lot of different formations and try to sneak people out to get you unbalanced. They do a really good job with it and their quarterback is mobile and can throw on the run.”
Even though the game against Macon-East is not a region contest, King said that doesn’t make the game any less important in relation to the Senators’ goal of reaching the playoffs.
“Every game we play is important and Macon-East is a big competitor in the East Region,” King said. “Say we make the playoffs, we’ll probably have to see this team again. If we can get some momentum and do really well against this team, it’ll give our guys even more confidence.
“We need to win back-to-back to give our guys the focus they need to make a real run at it.”
King said his team did a great job of controlling the football against Prattville Christian and will have to do so again in order to knock off the Knights.
“We have to do what we did last week and have no turnovers,” King said. “We’ve got to win the turnover battle.”
