MAPLESVILLE — The Keith Bears (1-1) put up 6 points in the fourth quarter at Maplesville Friday night, but it was too little too late as the Red Devils (2-0) pounded their way to a 40-6 win.

“We ran into a juggernaut,” Keith coach Harry Crum said.

“The guys are pretty sound. Our guys, they didn’t quit. Maplesville just seemed like they had the upper hand.”

Maplesville coach Brent Hubbert said Keith was a tough team, and his team did what it needed to in order to overcome the Bears.

“We’re proud of our effort for four quarters,” Hubbert said..

Brintain Hill crossed the goal line first with a 2-yard run, and again in the second quarter with a 1-yarder.

The second quarter was a battle of the defenses. The teams punted back and forth, and, with 48 seconds left in the half, Maplesville’s Cameron Morrow intercepted a Keith pass.

The drive ended with Damian Mitchell scoring from 15 yards out.

The conversion was no good, making the score 19-0 Devils at halftime.

Mitchell attacked again in the third, this time on a 7-yard touchdown run.

To cap it off, Colby Chambers found Dustin Stephens for a 2-point conversion.

Then, with 3:20 on the clock, it was déjà vu as Mitchell scored another 7-yard touchdown.

A recovered fumble allowed the Devils to score yet again in the third, this time on a 20-yard run courtesy of Jared White.

Going into the fourth quarter, the Devils were up 40-0.

But Keith would not settle for a shutout, and Charles Johnson gave them a spark with a 9-yard touchdown 6 minutes into the quarter.

Next week, the Devils go on the road to face Holy Spirit, and Keith travels to Pickens County.
