The Southside High School Panthers football team is putting last week’s 46-8 loss against rival Selma High School behind it and going back to basics before Friday night’s game.
The Panthers (0-1) will return home to open region play when they face Greene County (1-0) Friday night at 7 p.m.
Southside head football coach Bertrum Crum said his team is focusing on correcting its mistakes.
“We’re going to try and keep it simple and fundamentally sound,” Crum said.
“We have to improve on our basic fundamentals of the game including catching the ball, blocking, tackling.”
Crum said the Panthers will face a physical Greene County team.
“They run the football, they’re kind of smash mouth,” Crum said. “It’s going to be a tough challenge.”
Crum said the Panthers are going to have to be just as physical in order to win.
Crum said his seniors will have to step up in order for the Panthers to win.
“I think all 11 of our seniors are going to be important,” Crum. “Our team’s going to go as far as their senior leadership will take us.”
