They won’t exactly be globetrotters, but the Selma High School boy’s basketball team will call a few different places home this season.

The boy’s basketball team as well as the girl’s volleyball team will have to play some of their games away from Selma High School. The volleyball team will have to play home games elsewhere due to renovations on the school’s current gym not being ready for the start of the season in mid August.

“Some of the volleyball teams games will be played at some of our middle schools, preferably Selma Middle School,” said Patrick Evans, athletic director for Selma City Schools. “We’re also going to have to play some of our basketball games at Wallace Community College.”

Both teams will be able to practice at the physical education gym at Selma High School. Evans said the basketball team would be able to use the renovated gym at the school, which will be completed in October, just in time for the start of the season. Once the gym at the new Selma High School is complete, the gym currently being renovated will become the new physical education gym.

Selma High School boy’s basketball coach Woodie Jackson said the team would play some of its games at the high school, but will play bigger games at Wallace Community College.

“We’re hoping to play most of our games at the same place we played last year (renovated gym),” Jackson said. “It’s just going to be much smaller capacity wise.”

Jackson said most of the home games will be played at the high school and about five or six games are scheduled to be played at Wallace including the games against Southside and Keith high schools. Jackson said his team will not be adversely affected by playing a little further from home.

“I kind of prefer the size of the Wallace gym personally,” Jackson said. “We’re kind of accustomed to Wallace because we’ve practiced there some.”
