The Selma City School Board is looking at energy conservation as a possible way to save money.
The board received presentations from two companies at Tuesday’s board meeting in hopes of finding new ways to save money.
The board listened to partnership pitches from Energy Education and Trane Energy Solutions.
“We’re trying to find ways to save money through behavior modification as far as turning off electricity when it’s not needed and so forth,” said superintendent Donald Jefferson.
Jefferson said the average school system pays about $1.5 million or $2 million for utilities including water, gas and electricity.
Jefferson said other companies, including Honeywell, will give presentations at future board work sessions to give the board an idea of what other services are available for the school system.
“What we’re going to try to do is take the best program to where it costs us less money to try and operate and see if the board will go along and sign on,” Jefferson said. “Right now it’s no guarantee that they will sign off on any of these people.
“It can be somebody different to come in and make a presentation that knocks them off there feet, but at least we’re going to give them the opportunity to hear everybody and then see where they want to go with that.”
