Freshman Legislator of the Year was recently bestowed upon State Rep. Darrio Melton, whose diligence and unwavering fight for the advancement of quality education and economic development earned him the recognition.
Melton was given a resolution from members of the House Democratic Caucus during a community leader dinner in Montgomery where Melton was one of several members honored by the House Democratic Caucus.
“I would like to thank the people of HD 67 for believing in me to trust me with their vote,” Melton said. “I would also like to thank my church family, the Tabernacle of Praise Church, my beautiful wife Christi and my family for allowing me to do the people’s work of Alabama.”
Melton holds a B.S. Degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Master of Divinity from Emory University; he is also a graduate of Leadership Selma – Dallas County.
“Rep. Melton has truly evolved to be one of the key legislators to watch here in Alabama,” House Minority Leader Craig Ford, D-Gadsden, said. “His quiet but tenacious spirit serves him well in the Alabama Legislature. The people of Dallas County truly have a statesman they can be proud of.”
