Dust off your best boots, polish those giant buckles and find your 10-gallon hat, because its time once again for the Marion Rodeo.
Rodeo coordinator Jennifer Hoggle has been working hard to get the last-minute touches in before the kick-off for the 16th annual Marion Rodeo on June 10 and 11 at the Ralph Eagle Memorial Arena in Marion.
“Right now we are still hanging some posters and doing other little things to get ready,” Hoggle said. “The pen is going up (Tuesday) and we are getting ready to get the livestock in sometime Thursday. I know Friday there will be like a million little things that will need to be done, but we are getting ready.”
The rodeo will feature cowboys and cowgirls from the Professional Cowboys Association and stock from the 3-R Rodeo Company, competing in events such as calf roping, bareback bronco riding and the always-popular bull riding.
“Right now it’s just really coming together,” Hoggle said. “We are excited about people coming in and having a good time out here for a good cause.”
Proceeds to this year’s rodeo will go to the Sabra Sanctuary, an organization for women and children affected by domestic and sexual violence.
Last year, Sabra Sanctuary housed 93 women and children who were victims at the organization’s safe house.
Along with the proceeds going to Sabra, a trailer will be on hand for donations for recent tornado victims.
“Whatever people want to bring is fine with us,” Hoggle said. “If they want to bring towels, clothes, toiletries, whatever, nothing will be turned down. We’ll take whatever we collect up Monday after the rodeo. It’s just a way to help out.”
Advanced tickets can still be purchased at Hoggle’s Service Center and Marion Veterinarian Clinic in Marion.
Tickets for the event will be $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and younger and free for children ages 5 and younger, with the proceeds raised going to Sabra.
