The Selma Animal Shelter will get some much-needed support from a yard sale Saturday — at least, that’s what Lorraine Alexander hopes the outcome will be.

“We just heard the shelter needed help,” Alexander said.

The yard sale will be at the Selma Animal Shelter Saturday beginning at 7 a.m., and it will have clothing, bedding, toys, furniture and other items.

Alexander said she and her friend Debbie Clark both love dogs, and even though they don’t work for or volunteer at the animal shelter, they still wanted to help out.

“Every time we bought food for our dogs, we’d always buy an extra bag and drop it by the animal shelter,” Alexander said.

But simple donations grew into something bigger, and this is not the first yard sale they’ve put together. Alexander said their December yard sale raised enough money, along with donations from others, to buy about 18 special dog beds called Kuranda beds.

Their summer yard sale has another goal.

“The money raised is going toward the coated grates that go in the bottom in the kennels to keep the puppies warm and dry and clean,” Alexander said.

There are 12 puppy kennels, and none of them have these grates.

“We need people to come and buy stuff, and also if they would like to make a monetary donation while they’re here, we’ll be taking those also,” Alexander said.

You can also adopt a new pet during the yard sale.
