The second-ranked Dallas County Lady Hornets softball team has started the South Central Regional tournament with a big 13-1 win over the Holt Lady Ironmen in Troy.

The Lady Hornets racked up eight hits in just four innings and pitchers Cassie Daniels and Whitney Denson combined for 11 strikeouts out of 15 batters.

“We played well tonight,” Dallas County head coach Ed Miller said.

“We had a delay in the middle of the weather, but it didn’t bother the girls too much.”

Dallas County needs to win their next two games to ensure a berth in the ASHAA State Final Tournament at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.

Miller said the team was scheduled to play at 11 p.m. on Friday night.
