How do you plan to spend your Friday? How about taking time to enjoy good friends, good food and great music with ArtsRevive’s StreetFest.

The event, brought together by the ArtsRevive organization and BroadSouth Communications, is an opportunity to celebrate fresh local food and great music, including that of the full Alabama Symphony Orchestra, but it is another chance to celebrate what is obviously becoming a rebirth of Selma’s historic downtown.

For far too long, the story of Selma’s downtown was that of shuttered stores, dilapidated buildings and troubled areas. No longer.

Today, Selma’s downtown is becoming known for its construction, its coming attractions and the crowds of people who have found their way to restaurants, stores and shops that line the streets.

The waterfront amphitheater is under way and the river walk has given dog walkers, joggers and those searching for a quiet stroll along the Alabama River a safe, serene and beautiful place to do so. More is coming.

The continued work on the Selma Interpretive Center has reshaped and bedazzled one of downtown’s most iconic corners and the park that has taken the place of the collapsed Phoenix Building has only added to Water Avenue development.

The story of Selma’s historic downtown is changing and changing for the better.

Friday’s events near ArtsRevive give area residents yet another reason to get downtown and find out just what our city’s heart and soul is becoming.
