In it’s first year back, the Dallas County track and field team is already competing at a state level.
The Hornets have athletes competing in eight different competitions in Gulf Shores beginning at 8 a.m. Friday.
“We are excited about the chance to come down and compete at the state level,” Dallas County coach Robert Dolbare said.
“We were able to gain some good experience while competing at sectionals against such great teams.”
Shaquita Shields and Shay Stradley were the two Lady Hornets, who qualified, with Shields competing in the 100 and 200-meter dash. Stradley will compete in the girls discuss throw.
Deandre McDaniel will compete in the boy’s high jump and long jump.
Devin King will join McDaniel in the long jump.
The Hornets also have two relay teams that qualified with the 4×100 and 4×800.
Members of the 4×100 team are King, Chris Hunter, Alex Smith and William Maze.
The members of the 4×800 team are Wyatt Sanders, Austin Williams, Cameron Boney and Lowell Bass.
“I’m very proud of the kids for working hard to come this close to accomplishing all of their goals,” Dolbare said.
