A variety of tasty treats will be on display at this year’s Valley Grande Founder’s Day Saturday, to help fill hungry bellies affected by April’s tornado fury that wreaked havoc across the state.
Spearheaded by Selma resident, Loren Morrow, “Treats for T-Town,” will offer brownies, assortments of cookies and cupcakes, cakes and more from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. to help residents in Tuscaloosa get back on their feet.
“When I first heard the news about the tornadoes I wanted to do something and one thing I love to do is to bake,” said Morrow. “I sent out requests on Facebook, got over 1,200 responses and we will have 30 people that will bring something on that day. This is my way of helping out and it’s all for a good cause.”
Morrow said planning for the event has gotten “bigger than what I expected,” and whatever is left behind after the sale, she will send off with groups who will travel to Tuscaloosa Monday and Tuesday.
“We all know it could’ve been us and we want to help in any way we can because we are all brothers and sisters in Christ,” Morrow said. “If the tornado came through and hit Selma, there would be crews here helping us. We hope Saturday will be a great turnout.”
In addition to the plethora of cakes and pies, Morrow said there will be an Elvis Presley cake, a Howard Johnson cake and of course, an “Alabama and Auburn cake,” which she will bake.
“I think of it as two teams with one purpose,” Morrow said. “It’s just good to see all the love we have for each other.”
Morrow also said those who cannot make it to the sale but would like to donate, can make checks payable to “Treats for T-Town Disaster Relief” fund at Marion Bank and Trust Company. All proceeds from the sale will go directly to the American Red Cross in Tuscaloosa. For more information on how to help call 875-5685.
