ArtsRevive offers weekend fun

Friday may be a time to visit with family and friends, go shopping, or see the latest movie, but this Friday, why not try something a little different?
ArtsRevive and Selma-based BroadSouth Communications will host, “Celebrating Alabama’s Best through Art, Music and All Things Alabama,” on May 6 from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Carneal ArtsRevive building, to offer music from Birmingham’s Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Concordia College Jazz Band and other local acts, regional arts and crafts and children’s activities. The event will also showcase homegrown produce and the Billy Atchison Memorial Catfish fry to benefit Dallas County Crime Stoppers.
The free event is an effort to increase tourism in the area and celebrate Selma talent.
“We’re pleased to offer these musical performances to the public,” said ArtsRevive president Fran Pearce. “The symphony appearance is made possible by a grant from the Alabama Department of Education so students who may not have the opportunity to travel to Birmingham to see the symphony can see it in their hometown.”
Local and regional arts and food vendors will have a chance to set up booths during the event. A portion of proceeds, Pearce said, will go toward ArtsRevive.
“Our vendors have been carefully selected for originality and quality,” Pearce said. “We’ll also have a variety of activities for children of all ages to participate in.
“We hope this event will be the beginning of more successful events and a way to bring people back to historic downtown.”
