Judge Tommy Jones sentenced Wendell Cheeseboro to life in prison Thursday in Wilcox County Circuit Court for his role in the murder of Moticello Myles.

District Attorney Michael Jackson said he hopes the verdict will serve notice to violent offenders.

“We are going to keep cleaning up the streets in the Black Belt,” he said. “Where Wendell is going he will not be eating too many cheeseburgers.”

Cheeseboro was found guilty of the Dec. 6, 2008 murder of Myles at Jerry Bradford’s Bar and Grille in Lower Peachtree.

According to witnesses, the murder occurred when a fight broke out at the club where members of Wendell’s family were involved.

Neither Wendell nor Monticello were initially involved in the fight.

According to the report the night of the murder one of the witnesses, Fields Hicks, said he was dancing in the club when Cheeseboro hit him with a beer bottle and they fell to the floor. Myles stepped in to pull Hicks out of the fight.Later that night Myles was killed by a shotgun blast.

Initially, Cheeseboro’s bond was revoked and he was ordered to the Wilcox County Jail by Circuit Judge Tommy Jones.
