Juanita Hayes Cammack

Juanita Hayes Cammack, 85, of Selma, passed away on Friday April 8, 2011, at home. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday April 11, 2011 at Church Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Fred Zeigler officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Sunday April 10, 2011.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Charles Thomas Cammack, Sr. of Selma, two sons, Charles Thomas Cammack, Jr. of Selma and David Scott Cammack of Alexandria, VA; one grandson, William Charles “Chase” Cammack of Selma; three sisters, Mary Barbara Hayes of Catherine, AL, Margaret “Pug” Hayes (Lex) Parker of Thomaston, AL, Kathryn “Poochie” Hayes (Pete) Hooper of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, William T. “Buddy” (B.J.) Hayes of Atlanta, GA; Richard Nicholas “Nick” (Jan) Hayes of Albany, GA and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Cammack was preceded in death by her father, William Tyson Hayes; her mother, Violet Wilsey Hayes; a sister, Mildred Hayes Gass and her stepmother, Barbara Richards Hayes.

Juanita was a graduate of Orrville High School and was the first female pharmacist in Selma, AL, after earning her degree at Howard College (now Samford) in 1947. She worked at Carter Drug and other drugstores in Selma, AL, and Norfolk, VA. She was a member of the Mary Sweeney Friendship Class at the Church Street United Methodist Church. She was a Cub Scout Leader, church worker and a member of the Selma Charity League and Pandora.

Active pallbearers will be Ty Parker, Richard Parker, William Parker, Cam Morton, Rick Morton and Nick Stinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Hayes Hellbach, Robbie Cogle, Brandon Cogle and Chris Littleford.
