Sabra Sanctuary held its annual charity auction last night, but the center will get another boost in contributions from the 16th annual Marion Rodeo on June 10 and 11 at the Ralph Eagle Memorial Arena in Marion.
The rodeo will feature cowboys and cowgirls form the Professional Cowboys Association and stock from the 3-R Rodeo Company.
“We feel like this will be a fun time for people who want to come out and have a good time,” Jennifer Hoggle, rodeo coordinator said. “We have something for everyone out here to enjoy, from children to adults.”
The rodeo will feature sanctioned events like calf roping, bareback bronco riding and the always-popular bull riding.
There will also be events that are focused on children too Hoggle said.
“We have the Gold Rush and Little Wranglers open to the kids again,” Hoggle said. “The kind of events that keep kids interested in the rodeo and let them have a little fun out there.”
Advanced tickets can be purchased at Hoggle’s Service Center and Marion Veterinarian Clinic in Marion.
Tickets for the event will be $10 for adults, $5 for children 12-and-under and free for children ages 5 and under, with the proceeds raised going to Sabra.
“They (Sabra Sanctuary) cover all over the Black Belt,” Hoggle said. “This seemed like a cause that encompasses all of the areas, so we really felt a calling this year with them. It’s hard to explain the exact reason, because there isn’t just one.”
Sabra Sanctuary executive director Nancy Travis said the organization is grateful for what the rodeo will do for them.
“All of the proceeds will stay in Dallas, Wilcox and Perry County and help with victims of domestic and sexual violence,” Travis said. “None of the money is leaving the area.”
Last year, Sabra Sanctuary housed 93 women and children who were victims of domestic and sexual violence in the organization’s safe house, Travis said.
