Harvey S. Firestone said, “You get the best out of others when you give the best of yourself,” and Concordia College wants to honor those who’ve given their best to the community.
Concordia’s “Dare to Dream Image Awards” to be held April 7 beginning at 6 p.m. inside the Julius and Mary Jenkins Center, will honor the contributions of U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Selma), State Sen. Hank Sanders (D-Selma), Ross and Gloria Edwards, Alisa T. Summerville (Alabama Power Foundation) and Beau Boyd, president of Selma Rotary Club. Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley will be the guest speaker.
Boyd, who is representing the Rotary Club, said he’s honored to be a member of the club that will continue to help Concordia.
“We’ve had a joint mission with the university,” Boyd said. “I’m honored to be the president of the club. McNair Ramsey (Rotary Club member) has done a lot with the university and it (the club) has grown.”
Minnie McMillan, director of Alumni Affairs and president of the National Alumni Association for Concordia, said she hopes the event, which is the very first for the school, will happen annually.
“We wanted to honor people in the community who’ve made major contributions and supported Concordia,” McMillan said. “Despite the negativity in the area, we want to highlight the Black Belt. We also want to bring continued visibility to the school.”
A limited amount of individual $100 tickets are still available. The deadline to purchase tickets is Wednesday at noon. Sponsored tables of $5,000, $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000 are also available.
