Cassie Daniels and Whitney Denson combined to throw a no-hitter as Dallas County defeated Jemison 16-0 Thursday.
The Lady Hornets racked up 12 hits in four innings, including homeruns off the bats of Daniels and Kendall Veach.
“We worked on nothing but hitting since our last game,” Dallas County head coach Ed Miller said. “We haven’t seen a ground ball all week. We just broke down everything into drills and it paid off.”
The Lady Hornets sent 12 hitters up to the plate during an eight-run bottom of the first inning.
Avery Mott led the inning off with a double and later scored on a wild pitch.
Ciera Ingram reached after being hit and Daniels sent the next pitch over the right-centerfield fence.
The Lady Hornets sent five more runners across the plate before Jemison was able to get out of the inning.
Dallas County continued its hot hitting in the bottom of the second with another four runs and two more in the bottom of the third as the Lady Hornets began to look to their bench.
With the game in hand, Miller pulled Daniels and let Denson finish the game on the mound and she was able to keep the Lady Panthers hitless to preserve no-hitter.
The game ended when Veach hit a two-run homerun to center field.
“I was really, really happy with the way we played today,” Miller said.
“We came out and took what we did on the tees yesterday and put it to practice. Now we just have to keep that going tomorrow against Selma High School.”
