Dallas County picked up its second area win over Southside Thursday.

The Lady Hornets picked up from their slow hitting and routed the Lady Panthers 16-0.

“We had a great practice yesterday and really got after it hitting the ball,” Lady Hornets coach Ed Miller said. “We worked on laying the bat on our shoulder and it really kept us from lunging and arm-barring. We didn’t arm bar once. That’s great adjustments.”

Dallas County scored four runs in the top of the first, all coming off an inside the park grandslam off the bat of Stewart.

The Lady Hornets continued their onslaught in the second inning, putting seven runs on the board and following that with three runs in the third and two runs in the fourth.

“There’s not much you can say about the game,” Southside head coach April O’Neal said. “We had some girls who were injured out there, but they still played hard. That’s what we ask for, playing hard.”

Avery Mott led the Lady Hornets at the plate going 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Pitcher Cassie Daniels got the win on the mound for Dallas County.

Daniels struck out 12 batters and gave up only two hits in the four-inning shutout.

“I think yesterday the girls were able to get their confidence back at the plate,” Miller said. “We have still got to be a little more patient at the plate, but that will come with time as they get back into a rhythm.”

O’Neal said her squad is still looking for a few more pieces to put together.

“We have about four players in place right now,” said O’Neal. “I’ve got a good core, but you need nine in this game.”

We are just looking for those nine.”
