Fourth annual scramble starts today

The Fourth Annual Three-man scramble is set for today at the Selma County Club.
The tournament, which has grown each year, is up nearly 75 percent in participation from last year’s event, with the field set at 44 teams.
“We’ve been getting ready for it for about two weeks now,” Tommy Burns, the golf pro at the Selma Country Club said. “We have gotten about 10 inches of rain in the past two weeks and that doesn’t help. Well, the rain helps, but you would rather have a bath than a flood.”
With the course drying out, golfers will begin the scramble in two groups of shotgun starts, one at 9 a.m. and another at 1 p.m.
The field of 44 will be split into four flights of 11, allowing all the teams that wanted to play a chance.
“With the scramble you will have all three players tee off and will play the best ball hit,” Burns said. “They will continue playing the best ball until someone gets the ball in the hole.”
With sunny skies and tomorrow’s highs in the mid-80s, Burns said he was happy about the weather conditions that will accompany the scramble.
“The weather is going to be fabulous,” Burns said. “You can’t really ask for any better weather than that. It’s our first tournament out of six for the year so hopefully we can start it off right.”
