After a break from pitching, Cassie Daniels came back with a vengeance.

Daniels gave up no hits and struck out 17 batters in Dallas County’s 8-0 win over Demopolis Thursday.

“We are real happy with this win,” Lady Hornets coach Ed Miller said. “This is a big rivalry for these girls, this and Bibb County are two games our girls really want to win badly.”

While Daniels was shutting down the Lady Tiger bats, the rest of the team was putting on an offensive show.

The Lady Hornets honed in early and often for 12 hits.

Avery Mott led Dallas County from the plate going 3-for-3 with three RBI.

“We’ve been hitting really well the past few games,” Miller said. “We stress hitting in practice and the results are really starting to show with the way we are swinging the bats.”

Dallas County started quickly out of the gates when Kendall Veech hit a double.

Veech was brought in by Daniels on a single and after Ciera Ingram singled Mott got her first two RBI with another single.

The Lady Hornets waited an inning to strike again.

Ingram lead the inning off with a walk and was moved around by Mott’s second single. After a passed ball scored Ingram, Debra Cunningham drove in Mott with a sacrifice fly, moving the score to 5-0.

Ingram scored again in the bottom of the fifth after she got a hit and was advanced by a sacrifice bunt by Mott and later scored on a passed ball.

In the Lady Hornets final at-bat they were able to tack on two more runs with Veech and Whitney Denson crossing the plate.

“These girls have done such a good job of listening to what we said and taking that to the plate,” said Miller. “We are going to get back to work tomorrow with batting practice then get ready for Saturday.”

Dallas County will start at 10 a.m. in the Maplesville Softball Tournament on Saturday.
