Judson College’s bats were hot Saturday afternoon against Peaches in the final day of the Judson College Spring Tournament, held at the Selma Sportsplex.
The Eagles used great hitting early in the game to pull out to a 7-0 lead before finishing the game 7-2.
“That’s how you are supposed to hit the ball,” Judson head coach Lee Jones. “We hit it well today and we limited mistakes for the most part until those last couple of innings.”
Judson began the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Eagles recorded five straight singles in the middle of the line-up to give pitcher Ashley Sawyer room to work with during the game.
“Our ace pitcher hurt her hand yesterday so I’m glad we got a good performance out of (Sawyer) today,” Jones said.
The Eagles would put the game away in the bottom of the third inning, tacking on another three runs thanks to production from the bottom portion of the order.
“That’s about as complete a game as you could ask for,” Jones said. “We swung the bats well yesterday in our win against Robert Morris and it continued today.
“On top of that we were able to make some good plays out in the field,” Jones said. “When we put together a game like that we are tough to beat, anyone is.”
Jones said his team has continued to get better as the host of their spring tournament.
“We have had a pretty good tournament so far,” Jones said. “We just have to keep this going from this point forward. We have to continue working hard and making the routine plays like we did this afternoon and we will be okay.”
