Timely hitting and great pitching was the difference on Friday for Morgan Academy.

The Senators (7-6, 3-0) stayed perfect in the region with a 3-1 defeat of Prattville Christian Academy at Morgan.

“We got some real timely hits today,” Morgan coach Bob Taylor said. “We missed some opportunities early with bunts and things, but were able to make up for it late in the game with some big hits to score.”

Crawford Traylor racked up nine strikeouts and scattered four hits over his seven innings of work

“Crawford pitched a whale of a ballgame today,” Taylor said. “In the sixth he gave up a leadoff triple and was able to come back and get three straight outs, that was big.”

The game was a pitcher’s duel all afternoon, but Ethan Fancher was able to get on in the bottom half of the fifth inning and score on a single by Joel Yarbrough to give the Senators the lead late.

In the top half of the sixth the Lions looked primed to tie the game after a leadoff triple, but Traylor closed the door.

In the bottom of the sixth the Senators were able to put the game away after Parker Hughes doubled and was driven in by Justin Sealy.

“We played well today,” Taylor said. “We only have six region games and we have won three of them. That’s good but you still have more to play.”
