A few drops of rain could slightly dampen the Bridge Crossing Jubilee events Saturday.
While vendors and some events were forced indoors, those participating in the scheduled Jubilee parade would not be deterred.
“Nothing was going to slow us down,” one of the participants yelled as they finished the parade route at School of Discovery.
Officials with the Bridge Crossing Jubilee said events went relatively smooth throughout the day, given the challenges presented by the rain.
Jubilee vendors and events were split between locations at the old National Guard Armory and the School of Discovery.
But while Saturday was faced with plenty of rain and grey skies, Sunday’s events are expected to be graced with clear skies and plenty of sunshine.
The day is set to begin early with the Unity Breakfast set to begin at 7:30 a.m. at Wallace Community College. Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley is expected to attend and speak at the event.
The iconic event of the weekend, the pre-march rally at Brown A.M.E. Church and the bridge crossing re-enactment will begin at 1:30 p.m. at historic Brown Church located on Martin Luther King Street.
The crossing is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
Following the march, a post-march rally will be held, featuring the Florida A&M University choir.
