We’re all ambassadors this weekend

It’s here. My first Jubilee has arrived and I have to say I am both excited and nervous.

The events that are on tap will provide constant entertainment and the opportunity for a great learning experience.

It’s not every small town that can use a festival to double in size. Frankly, I can’t wait.

But, as I said before there are some butterflies. Here at the newspaper we are trying to figure out ways to be in two and three places at once. Our Jubilee coverage will be a challenge, but it is a challenge we are fully prepared to take on.

It has been amazing to watch the Jubilee organizers in action throughout the last few weeks. Every day I see Sam Walker, Ollie Taal and others in constant motion.

They fly into the office and fly right back out again to make sure everything is in order.

If you haven’t driven past the Water Avenue office in the wee hours of the night, I can tell you from first hand experience that these guys have been burning the midnight oil.

From everything I have heard Jubilee is a fun event with a packed schedule.

There is always something to do and judging from this year’s lineup, it should be another busy year.

Hats off to everyone who has been behind the scenes pulling this event together. And, as someone who has put together a few articles previewing the event, thank you for all of your cooperation.

We understand how busy you are, but everyone we have talked to leading up to the Jubilee has been more than helpful and more than willing to take time out of their schedules to give us good information.

Finally, let’s all welcome our visitors and show them what true Southern hospitality is all about. This weekend Selma will have a number of first-time visitors. They will need directions. They will need to know when events are happening and where. For the next few days we are all ambassadors of good will.

Let’s make sure everyone’s Selma experience is positive. You never know, we could all be selling our city to business executives who are looking for a positive place to relocate are expand.
