Prepare to be amazed tonight.

More than eight male and female step groups from Wilcox, Hale and Dallas counties and Lafayette, La., will stomp and step for this year’s Bridge Crossing Jubilee performance, set to be held at the Old National Guard Armory at 7 p.m.

The event, “Stomp Out To Vote,” will celebrate the youth of Selma and the spirit of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Admission is $10.

The groups have been practicing on their own time in preparation for Friday’s event.

This year’s coordinator, Felecia Pettway, said each year the groups get more and more creative.

“It’s exciting to see what the groups do,” Pettway said. “Not only are winners chosen for their precision of the steps but also on how the performances match up with our theme.”

Pettway also said the event is “youth friendly” and positive. She said it’s a way for young people to have something to do without focusing on violence.

“They walk away learning the story of the movement,” Pettway said. “There will also be performances from the youth of Concordia College and Wallace Community College-Selma.”
