The annual Bridge Crossing began Thursday night, but the events, crowds and traffic are set to grow as the weekend approaches.
In an effort to make room for the concerts, the vendors and the stages, the Selma Police Department announced Thursday a list of road closures that will go into effect Friday at 6 p.m.
The following streets will be closed beginning Friday at 6 p.m. and will remain closed through Sunday at 7 p.m.:
- Water Avenue from Broad Street to Church Street
- Lauderdale Street from Alabama Avenue to Water Avenue
- Church Street from Alabama Avenue to Water Avenue
- Water Avenue from Broad Street to Washington Street
The Edmund Pettus Bridge, the site of Sunday’s Bloody Sunday re-enactment will be closed Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. only.
Police and city officials urge drivers to use extreme caution around these areas during the Jubilee as pedestrians will be crossing streets, moving from stage to state and vendor to vendor.
